An accidental fire Friday evening resulted in the death of one resident of York.

Frances Kenott, age eighty-two, died when fire damaged her daughter’s home at 425 Country Club Road around 6:35 P.M. April 7th. Mrs. Kenott was alone at the home when the fire occurred.

Although a smoke alarm was present in the home, Mrs. Kenott, who suffered from several medical problems, was unable to escape.

Investigators from the York Fire and Police Departments, as well as the State Fire Marshals, identified the cause of the fire as an unattended electric kitchen stove. An autopsy was scheduled by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
