Following several weeks of continuous investigation, a volunteer fireman will be charged with setting fires in Malvern.

The fireman was taken into custody this evening after confessing to investigators from the State Fire Marshals Office that he set two woods fires and five vacant structure fires in Malvern between March 15th and April 2nd of this year.

The suspect has lived in Malvern approximately a month and a half and has been a fireman with the Malvern Volunteer Fire Department for approximately one month. The suspect will be formally charged with all of the fires tomorrow. The investigation was a cooperative effort of the Malvern Volunteer Fire Department, the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office, the Slocomb Police Department and the State Fire Marshals Office. Through the course of the investigation, the dispatchers with the Slocomb Police Department provided invaluable assistance to the investigators.
