A fire that severely damaged the Beaverton Free Will Baptist Church in Lamar County late Saturday afternoon has been classfied as an arson, State Fire Marshal Richard Montgomery said Sunday.
"We have found significant evidence to determine that this fire was deliberately set," Montgomery said. "We do not know if the fire is directly related to any other the fires."
The site of the fire was in the Beaverton community east of Sulligent. Lamar County is north of Pickens County, which was the site of one of the second group of fires.
