One Clayton resident died Sunday morning when fire destroyed his home.

J. D. Manley was killed around 6:50 AM February 6, during a fire on Louisville Street. The fire was discovered by a Clayton Police Officer, however, efforts to rescue Mr. Manley were unsuccessful.

An investigation by the Clayton Police Department and State Fire Marshals Office indicates the fire occurred when combustibles were placed too close to a portable electric heater. No smoke alarms were found in the remains of the house.
