The members of the Alabama Disaster Response Coalition have been placed on alert as forecast models indicate that Hurricane Frances, or its remnants, could affect parts of the state late in the holiday weekend or early next week.
The Alabama Disaster Response Coalition is comprised of the ALDOI, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, National Weather Service, the American Red Cross, state and local law enforcement, and insurance industry representatives.
Adjusters and other insurance representatives have been given credentials that will enhance their ability to get to affected areas.
“It is imperative that we make it as easy as possible for people to get help and to get the help as quickly as possible,” Commissioner Bell said.
Johnny Johnson, Deputy Commissioner for Property and Casualty, and Richard Montgomery, Acting State Fire Marshal, are leading the Department’s efforts in the Alabama Disaster Response Coalition.
“We don’t know what is going to happen over the weekend and into next week, but we want to be ready to act quickly if something does occur,” Commissioner Bell said.
The disaster plan calls for members of the response team to set up headquarters in affected areas. Also, staff members of the Alabama Department of Insurance will be stationed at the headquarters in affected areas in order to assist consumers.
A member of the response team will also be stationed at Alabama Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Clanton to provide real-time damage reports if a major event occurs.
