Richard Montgomery, the assistant state fire marshal for north Alabama, has been named Acting State Fire Marshal effective Jan. 1, Insurance Commissioner Walter A. Bell announced today.
“I have every confidence that Richard will handle these duties in an efficient and professional manner,” Commissioner Bell said. “He has been a valuable member of the team in the State Fire Marshals Office and will bridge the gap in this important time.”
Montgomery, a native of Moulton, will assume on a temporary basis the vacancy created by the retirement of John Robison, who served as State Fire Marshal for 15 years and on the staff of the State Fire Marshals Office for more than 30 years.
Montgomery has been with the State Fire Marshals Office for almost 21 years. Prior to that, he served as an investigator with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office for four years.
Previously, Montgomery owned and operated a pharmacy in Moulton. He entered law enforcement after selling his pharmacy. He has a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Samford University and is a graduate of the Northeast Alabama Policy Academy.
