Twenty-nine-year-old Robert Austin Rodgers was killed this morning when fire destroyed his mobile home at 294 Scarborough Road in Wicksburg.
The fire was discovered when a Daleville Police Officer noticed a glow in the sky and notified the Houston County Sheriff’s Office. The fire was reported at 3:40 AM. The front portion of the home had collapsed by the time the first firefighter from the Wicksburg Volunteer Fire Department arrived.
The fire and death are under investigation by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshals Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. At the present time the fire appears to be accidental having occurred when an electric stove was being used to heat the mobile home. The presence of smoke alarms has not been determined at this time.
