Two Charged with Capital Murder

One juvenile and one adult have been charged following the investigation of a fire related death at Moulton.  Colby Allen Smith age 16 of Moulton and an unidentified 14 year-old Moulton juvenile were charged with one count of Capital Murder/Robbery and one count of Capitol Murder/Arson each.

The arrests followed an investigation into a fire at 7768 County Road 87, Lot 25, Moulton on July 16, 2003.  Cole Columbus Cannon, age 52, was killed during the fire.  Investigators with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office identified the suspects through interviews during the investigation.

Smith is being held in the Lawrence County Jail, following his capture by detectives from the Gadsden Police Department.  Smith was being held in a local facility in Gadsden when he escaped.

The juvenile is currently being held at the Tennessee Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
