Andalusia resident Darel Glen Smith, Sr., age 46, has been charged with 3 counts of Theft of Property First Degree, 3 counts of Receiving Stolen Property First Degree, 4 counts of Obscuring the Identity of a Vehicle, and 1 count of Criminal Mischief First Degree following the investigation of a fire in Opp.
The investigation began when a vehicle was stolen in Covington County. Investigators with the Opp Police Department, Covington County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office say additional charges may be filed against this suspect.
Smith was a firefighter with the Sanford Volunteer Fire Department, but was removed from the fire department prior to his arrest.
