Winston County Resident Dies in Fire

Winston County resident Oliver Basil, age 73, died Monday night during a fire at his home.  Fire departments were called to the scene, at 6259 County Road 4 near Double Springs, around 9:30 PM.

An investigation by the Winston County Sheriff’s Office; Marion/Winston County District Attorney’s Office; Double Springs, Ashridge and Lynn Volunteer Fire Departments; and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office is continuing.  At this time the cause of the fire is undetermined but not suspicious.

No smoke detectors were located in the one story wood frame home when the fire occurred.
