One person has been arrested following an investigation of a fire at the Bennett Lumber Company.
Mauro Vasquez, age 26, of 214 Nolan Street in Piedmont was arrested March 14th and charged with Arson Second Degree, Identity Theft, and Criminal Mischief First Degree. Vasquez is currently being held in the Calhoun County Jail under a no bond order.
Investigators with the Piedmont Police and Fire Departments and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office have been working the investigation since the fire was reported at 1:38 AM March 9th. The business where the crimes were committed is located at 111 Old Ladiga Road in Piedmont.
Investigators say additional arrests are probable in the case where damaged is estimated at $3,000,000. The building was a total loss.
