One person died early Sunday morning during a fire at 26238 Merchant Lane in Alberta. At this time, the victim has not been identified.
The fire was discovered by an Alberta police officer who reported the fire at 1:45 AM. The home was supposed to be vacant and firefighters did not know anyone was inside the home until they returned to the scene and discovered the body around 8:45 PM. The home was equipped with two battery powered smoke detectors, however, it is unknown if they were operable at the time of the fire.
The fire and death are currently under investigation by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death and the identity of the victim
