Local and state investigators continue their investigation into a Thursday evening fire that claimed the life of an unidentified adult male.

The Roanoke Fire Department was notified of the fire at 7:57 PM.  A passerby discovered the fire as they passed 627 Chestnut Street and went 7/10s of a mile to report the fire.  Fire fighters arrived on the scene four minutes later and discovered the victim’s body on a day bed in a rear bedroom while searching for occupants of the singlewide mobile home.

The Roanoke Fire and Police Departments, County Coroner and Alabama State Fire Marshals Office are investigating the fire and death.  Investigators say the cause of the fire appears to be a misuse of smoking materials and that the victim apparently fell asleep on the day bed while smoking.  No smoke detectors were in the home at the time of the fire.  The owner of the home also reported that no one was suppose to be staying in the home.

An autopsy is scheduled by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences to determine the specific cause of death and to identify the victim.
