One Child Dies in Fire

One child died Friday night during a fire at her home at 308 Linn Street in Scottsboro.  The child’s father was injured in the fire that was reported to 911 by a neighbor at 9:15 PM.

Aziah Cotton, age 2, was killed, and her father, thirty-eight year old Aaron Cotton, was severely injured in the fire.  Mr. Cotton was transported to a hospital in Chattanooga, TN where he is undergoing treatment for second and third degree burns.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Scottsboro Fire and Police Departments and the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office.  A smoke detector was present in the home at the time of the fire and was operable.
