Jackson County Explosion Kills One

One person has died and a second is recovering from injuries received around 11:30 PM Monday in an explosion and fire in Jackson County.

James Hulen Stewart was critically injured and his sixteen year old son slightly injured when the tank on a kerosene heater exploded inside their mobile home. Mr. Stewart was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital Burn Center in Chattanooga, TN where he died.

The home, located at 234 Jackson County Road 782 in Woodville was heavily damaged. It is unknown at this time if an operable smoke alarm was present in the home. Woodville and Limrock Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the fire.

The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation by the State Fire Marshals Office.
