Prattville High School, 1315 Upper Kingston, sustained moderate damage Saturday afternoon during a fire originating in an art supply room.
Prattville Fire Department and Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene after the fire was discovered by teenagers playing basketball and another person who lives near the school. The fire was reported at 4:07 PM. The Montgomery Fire Department provided mutual aid to Prattville to stand by for other calls.
The fire was confined to the art supply room, one art room, one hallway and several classrooms located nearby. The majority of the fire damage was to the ceiling and roof in the affected area, with additional water damage.
Investigators from the Prattville Fire Department and Alabama State Fire Marshals Office determined the fire originated in the art supply room. The cause of the fire was an improperly installed electrical receptacle.
Autauga County Superintendent of Education Larry Butler will provide all information regarding the school and their plans for opening following the Labor Day Weekend.
