One adult was killed Tuesday afternoon during a fire on 12th Court in Phenix City.
Arthur L. Gordon, Sr., age 75, was killed when fire damaged the home where he lived at 719 12th Court. The fire was reported shortly after 1:30 PM. Mr. Gordon and a relative were in the house, owned by Thomas Peacock, when the fire began at the front porch. The relative was able to escape, although Mr. Gordon was not.
Investigators from the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office determined the fire occurred due to a light duty extension cord being used to supply electricity to a window air conditioner. There were no smoke detectors or alarms in the home at the time of the fire.
