Investigators from the Alabama State Fire Marshals Office have determined the Sunday morning fire at the Peoples Bank of Greensboro was intentionally set after the building was burglarized.
Shortly before 4:00 AM July 7, a fire was reported in the 1100 block of Main Street in Greensboro. Units from the Greensboro Fire and Police Departments responded to the scene, finding the bank building located at 1112 Main Street and an office building located at the corner of Main and Whelan on fire. Seven area fire departments were called to assist Greensboro with the fire. The bank building was a total loss and the office building was heavily damaged.
Due to the burglary and fire involving a bank, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is working with the fire marshals office and local agencies in the investigation.
At the present time the investigation is on-going to identify the individuals responsible for the burglary and fire.
