Three members of a Cottondale family died Wednesday night during a fire that heavily damaged their mobile home. Names of the victims and of the three family children who escaped the fire are being withheld pending notification of relatives. The fire occurred while the father was using diesel fuel to start a fire in the fireplace, providing the only heat in the home located at 15288 Ole County Road. A child killed in the fire ran from the room when the fire began and the mother went to rescue the child. The father successfully moved the other three children outside the home, then re-entered the burning home to rescue his wife and child. The father, mother and child were unable to escape the fire. The fire and deaths remain under investigation by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and Alabama State Fire Marshals Office.
