One Monroe County resident died Saturday afternoon in a fire at 532 West Street in Excel.
Lois Lane McLaurin, age 50, died in the fire which occurred around 3:00 P.M. September 23rd. A smoke alarm was present in the home at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire and whether the smoke alarm was operable is still under investigation by local authorities and the State Fire Marshals Office.
