An early morning fire resulted in death for one Thomasville resident Sunday. Charlie James Holt, Sr. died when a fire occurred in the duplex apartment he occupied.

Thomasville Fire Department firefighters responded to the call at 12:28 AM, but were unable to rescue the victim. The fire at 1024 Martin Luther King Alley originated in the living room of the duplex apartment that was without electricity.

The victim was known to be using a candle for light, which has not been ruled out as a possible cause for this fire. The fire and death are currently under investigation by the Thomasville Fire Department, Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and the State Fire Marshals Office.

No smoke alarms were present in the home at the time of the fire.
